In December 2010, Naomi Campbell was joined by her Jamaican-born mother Valerie Morris at the British Fashion Awards.

The English model has never met her biological father, who abandoned her mother when she was four months pregnant. His name is not listed on Naomi’s birth certificate.

The diva was dressed in a black velvet Alexander McQueen gown that sported a see-through skirt from the thighs down:

I know it’s a McQueen, but I seriously am not 100% sold on the dress. What do you think? Hot or not?

Obviously, I am not a fan of the sheer skirt look. I don’t know why designers keep on producing such pieces, and I don’t know why celebrities keep on wearing them to carpet occasions.

I think it only works with certain casual looks, like boho or country (worn with knee boots, etc), but definitely not red carpet ones.

But that’s just me talking. If you can fully appreciate its appeal, then maybe you wouldn’t mind wearing these to some of your holiday gatherings:

Valerie Morris briefly remarried in the 1980s and gave birth to Naomi’s half-brother, Pierre. For some reason, Naomi took the surname “Campbell” from her mother’s second marriage.

Naomi’s grandparents moved to the UK from Jamaica in the 1950s. Their daughter, Valerie Morris , was just 19 when she had Naomi. At the time, she was working as a dancer in the dance troupe Fantastica that toured Europe and the Middle East.

‘It was tough, I had to grow up very quickly,’ Valerie told Daily Mail in an interview, but she never considered an abortion: ‘Life is precious. I had created a life and I had to look after her to the best of my ability.’

In 2017, Naomi was once again joined by her mom at the same award show. This time, she opted to wear a look by Azzedine Alaïa.
