Last week, Diane Kruger was spotted promoting her new movie, ‘Farewell My Queen’, in Berlin. And here’s the thing, the German-born actress wore an interesting outfit to the photocall, a two-piece ensemble that included a dress and a skirt from Derek Lam’s more accessible line, 10 Crosby. Did you catch that? She wore a dress AND a skirt!
Now if you’re wondering, how on earth did the actress look in such a combo. Well, you be the judge. The outfit was completed with a pair of bejeweled yellow sandals from Giuseppe Zanotti.

What do you think?
As you can see, the look was put together using a striped skirt over a longer tea length printed green dress – a very unconventional way of mixing pieces, but somehow it worked for her. Do you think it could work for you as well? Can you and would you rock this skirt-over-dress get-up and work it?
If you’d love to try but don’t want to look too adventurous, start by mixing stripes with something solid instead. And then once you get the hang of it, you can move on to mixing two patterns together a la Diane. Also, don’t forget to work within the same color palette. And lastly, make sure you pick a dress that is not only a few inches (around 2 inches maximum) longer than the skirt, but one with a slim (or at least not so full skirted) silhouette as well, because what you want to avoid is too much fabric bunching together underneath your skirt.
