The color red ruled at the Oscars this year!

From wine to bright to fiery, red was the clear runaway winner for many celebrities on the 2011 Oscars red carpet:

Jennifer Hudson in an Atelier Versace Spring 2008 bright red gown; Anne Hathaway in a Valentino Couture Fall 2002 gathered red gown; Jennifer Lawrence in a Calvin Klein fire engine red dressJennifer Hudson in an Atelier Versace Spring 2008 bright red gown; Anne Hathaway in a Valentino Couture Fall 2002 gathered red gown; Jennifer Lawrence in a Calvin Klein fire engine red dress

Sandra Bullock in a Vera Wang strapless red gown; Anne Hathaway in an Atelier Versace Spring 2011 wine red gown; Penelope Cruz in L’Wren Scott Spring 2011 fiery red gownSandra Bullock in a Vera Wang strapless red gown; Anne Hathaway in an Atelier Versace Spring 2011 wine red gown; Penelope Cruz in L’Wren Scott Spring 2011 fiery red gown

Red was still THE color choice even off the Oscars red carpet. Celebs still rocked the red at many of the Oscars after-parties :

Ginnifer Goodwin in an Erdem Fall 2009 navy lace overlay red dress; Leslie Mann in a Versace wine red strapless gown; Anna Paquin in a Monique Lhuillier shredded skirt red cocktail dressGinnifer Goodwin in an Erdem Fall 2009 navy lace overlay red dress; Leslie Mann in a Versace wine red strapless gown; Anna Paquin in a Monique Lhuillier shredded skirt red cocktail dress

Maybe these stars’ stylists were sent a memo about wearing red to the Oscars, we don’t know, but all this crimson worn all at the same time is too good to be a coincidence.

If it IS a coincidence, then kudos to all these celebrities who weren’t afraid of blending in and being matchy-matchy with the red carpet laid out under their feet.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber both in color-coordinated Dolce & Gabbana; Zoe Saldana in a Prabal Gurung Spring 2011 pink and red dress; Odette Yustman in a Monique Lhuillier cutout red gownSelena Gomez and Justin Bieber both in color-coordinated Dolce & Gabbana; Zoe Saldana in a Prabal Gurung Spring 2011 pink and red dress; Odette Yustman in a Monique Lhuillier cutout red gown

Even if many of them wore the same color that night, these celebrities in red still stood out from the crowd.

Red not only is (and has always been) an eye-catching and attention-grabbing color, but it’s also a hue that the wearer needs to have a lot of confidence and poise in order to pull off.
