When we need to find out what dress a celebrity is wearing, what we do is we scour fashion shows, celebrity style websites, and the celebrity’s own social media accounts for clues or an actual ID.
We also draw from our own archives and knowledge; after years of dedication to dresses and fashion, we’ve developed a sort of sixth sense about these things.
A photographer pulling down the back of Mel B’s dress to see the label and find out who designed it
We’ll do all sorts of stuff just to get you an ID on a dress, but what this photographer did to find out what Mel B wore to the America’s Got Talent finale performance show is something we have yet to do.
It’s not the politest way, but it sure is the most direct way — the photographer basically just pulled down the back of Mel B’s dress to read the label on it. Couldn’t she have asked Mel B the usual “who are you wearing” question instead?
If Mel B was fazed by it, she didn’t show it and regained her composure quickly enough to do some hand-on-hip poses for the cameras.

If only the photographer had our insight, right? Then, she wouldn’t have had to read the label from the back of the dress itself and would have immediately known that those panels and second-skin-like fit of Mel B’s dress identify it as a Stella McCartney design.
Mel B is also a known fanatic of Stella McCartney, having been spotted wearing the English designer’s past season dresses and even a jumpsuit.
