Speaking of striped dresses, look what we found competing for rack space: two striped dresses in nearly identical designs!
They’ve got the same scoop neck / sleeveless styles, same tie waists, and same color patterns. The only differences are in their hem lengths, in their fabrication, and more commonly, in what their price tags read.
Let’s start with the more expensive dress, this one from Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Runway ‘Simone’ Striped Tie Dress, $628
This Marc by Marc Jacobs Runway ‘Simone’ striped tie dress hits at mid-length — about three to four inches below the knee. The waist is already elastic but it’s also cinched with a teal self-belt. It’s made of 100% unlined silk, which is okay since it’s silk and it’s also a summer dress.
Next up is this dress from 36 Point 5:
36 Point ‘5 Stripe Dream’ Maxi Dress, $54
This dress is a bit longer at 56″. The sheer outer shell hits at ankle length while the inner lining stops just below the knee. The effect is sort of like the maxi slip dress which was a big trend in the summer of last year. This 100% polyester dress has a drawstring waist which can be worn loose or cinched as desired.
So between these two dresses, which one would you go for — the $628 Marc by Marc Jacobs Runway ‘Simone’ striped tie dress or the $54 36 Point ‘5 Stripe Dream’ maxi dress?
