We’re pretty accustomed to seeing outrageous pieces of clothing at London Fashion Week — especially with designers like Betsey Johnson around.

But, at this year’s event, one particular piece really stood out to us: a dress made of LEGO bricks.

Anne-Sophie Cochevelou, a student at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, showed off her LEGO brick dress at London Fashion Week when she and her design team attended the Bora Asku show in 2013. The dress was worn by model Aspen Glen-Cross.

The dress is reportedly made of 5,000 LEGO bricks and is nearly sculptural with its stiff flared skirt and bodice. This bright red creation breathed life into an otherwise wet and dreary London day.

Cochevelou treated the bricks like Swarovski crystals or rhinestones, using them as embellishments on the skirt, clustering them about the shoulders, lining them on the bodice, and dangling them in tassels from the hem. You’ll even find them on the accessories, such as the bow, the umbrella and the transparent wedge sandals.

The LEGO dress is not a new concept. Two years ago, Michael Schmidt designed a short LEGO dress for Fergie who wore it for a performance at the 24th Annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. There is even a LEGO wedding dress by Japanese artist Rie Hosokai of Daisy Balloon created for a charity exhibit in Parco Museum.

Although it’s nothing new, Cochevelou has given a wearable aspect to the LEGO concept. Her blog, Cycle in Heels, shows her in other LEGO-embellished dresses and even LEGO jewelry, which she has excitedly bestowed on family and friends alike. Of course, LEGO handbags are nothing new. Who knows what she’ll come up with next?

During London Fashion Week 2018, we spotted two men wearing face masks made out of LEGO. Perhaps an idea for Halloween?
