Last February, Kim Kardashian was spotted attending the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party in a black sleeveless mermaid style textured gown with cutouts on the skirt from Alaia. She styled the form-fitting gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and Christian Louboutin heels.

The dress was quite simple and perhaps a little too subdued for the event, but it was classy and elegant nonetheless.

What do you think? Gorgeous, agree? It can actually be the perfect go-to dress when you simply can’t find anything else to wear to a black tie event. Sadly, there’s a shortage of Alaia dresses online and this one isn’t available anywhere. But judging from the few currently sold at Farfetch, assume it will cost you between $1500 to $2000 (or maybe more!).

Now that’s a LOT of money for a dress, so if you simply want to steal the look minus the designer price tag, just head over to Neiman Marcus and grab the Tadashi Shoji illusion sheath gown:

Much like Kim’s dress, the Illusion Sheath Gown is also made of textured material. And although it may not have the cutouts, it does come with see-through elements made of mesh shadow stripe panels. And the best part? It will cost you much less than an Alaia – just $360. That doesn’t sound so bad, does it? Pair it with gorgeous earrings, statement cuffs, and sassy heels to copy Kim’s look!
