Taylor Swift recently shared an article from The Root about the importance of Juneteenth on Twitter.

Celebrated annually on the 19th of June throughout the United States to mark the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States, the 30-year-old singer believes it should be celebrated as a National holiday.

Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day.

Taylor continued, “Personally, I’ve made the decision to give all of my employees June 19th off in honor of Freedom Day from now on, and to continue to educate myself on the history that brought us to this present moment.”

“For my family, everything that has transpired recently gives us an opportunity to reflect, listen, and reprogram any part of our lives that hasn’t been loudly and ferociously anti-racist, and to never let privilege lie dormant when it could be used to stand up for what’s right,” the artist concluded.

Yep, Taylor, who is oftentimes seen on the red carpet wearing sparkly white or nude and the occasional red, chose a more grown-up red carpet look, favoring a dark plum mermaid cut gown by Donna Karan Atelier.

She capped off the outfit with an exquisite pair of teardrop earrings, and let’s just say she truly worked her look to perfection.

What do you think ladies? Loving Taylor’s plum-passionate look here or what? Or do you prefer her usual?

We actually like it. She went out of her comfort zone here. Selena Gomez’s best friend obviously wanted something different (whether for herself or for her fans), and she came out really stunning.

Definitely not the squeak-clean-goody-two-shoes image anymore, but still beautiful, and might we add, a call to let everyone know she is one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelorettes.

Her Donna Karan dress isn’t available online, but if the silhouette beckons you, here’s an exquisite alternative from Zac Posen in gorgeous green that you can find at Mytheresa and Saks Fifth Avenue:
