Is It Time to Say Goodbye to Peplum Dresses?

Out of all the dress trends that came out this year, perhaps the biggest of them all was the peplum.

Celebrities loved it, and non-famous folks like us couldn’t get enough of it. It hid stomach bulges, flattered the hips and nipped the waist. It looked good on every dress style imaginable from day dresses to work dresses all the way to red-carpet-worthy dresses.

So it’s a sad day for us today when we realized that the end of 2012 might also mean the end of the beloved peplum. As amazing as its reign is, fashion has this tendency to tire of things no matter how good they are.

So do you think it’s time to say goodbye to the peplum?

It would be very unfortunate if it is because that would mean we would only get to enjoy this futuristic-looking reptile brocade peplum dress for a very short while:

Faith Connexion reptile brocade dress, $615.00

And this edgy geometric-printed and peplum-ed dress? Better get the most wear out of it now while it’s still in style! :

Milly ‘Thea’ peplum dress, $376.00

Sad face. This asymmetrically peplum-ed dress looks like it would’ve been a really fun summer dress:

Susana Monaco flutter tube dress, $180.00

And how ingenious was it for Susana Monaco to place the peplum on a dropped waist? It gave this dress a kick skirt feel but that might not matter much in the near future (sigh):

Susana Monaco peplum tank dress, $161.00

Might as well forget this classic peplum dress style too:

Tibi ‘Belle’ peplum dress, $465.00

What do you predict for the peplum’s fate in 2013?
