A swarm of Hollywood A-listers and stylish celebrities and designers gathered together for the 2013 Met Gala, which kicked off the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Annual Costume Institute Exhibit. Yearly, the fete comes with an interesting theme; for this year, it was “Punk: Chaos to Couture.”
The attendees showcased their own interpretation of the theme. Some dyed their hair, and many wore dark makeup; a number of the outfits were also outrageous. The red carpet turned into a pool of eccentric ensembles that we don’t usually see in other big events. Indeed, it was chaos … stylish chaos, that is. Have you ever imagined punk fashion paraded on the red carpet? Well, check out the following celebrities who arrived at the party in their boldest looks, and tell us who you think dressed best. Check out Part 2 for more celebrities including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Beyonce, and Jennifer Lopez.
Nicole Richie in a Topshop Dress
Someone must have been set to replace Halle Berry as Storm in ‘X-Men’. Kidding aside, Nicole Richie did seem to channel Storm’s look with that white-dyed hair. She also wore dark makeup. Totally punk, huh? Other than those, however, everything else was kind of vintage. The high-neck, long-sleeved column dress by Topshop looks a little classic, more so with the embroideries all throughout.

Cara Delevingne in a Burberry Dress
Sexy punk! That perfectly describes Cara’s look for the night. She dazzled in a black plunging dress that features spiked studs on the bodice and long sleeves. To fit more into the theme, she wore smoky eye makeup and punk-inspired accessories, including a set of clip earrings and a knuckle ring.

Sarah Jessica Parker in a Giles Fall 2013 Gown
Mohawk is probably the popular hairstyle among real punks. Although we didn’t get to see some real hair transformation at Met Gala 2013, at least SJP showed us how mohawk is done in a stylish way. She wore a custom headpiece by Philip Treacy, which added a hint of fierceness to her dramatic paint-splattered gown.

Cameron Diaz in a Stella McCartney Gown
Simple and still pretty, Cameron Diaz showed that a few accessories can help transform a look. She went for a plain royal blue custom gown with a stylish cape, and adding the punk effect to that elegance was her spiked belt.

Lily Collins in a Moschino Gown
Here’s Lily Collins, who is genuinely into the punk style. She slipped into a black lace-and-silk-tulle gown, which was actually enough for the event’s theme, but she decided to add some more by wearing a vintage jacket embellished with badges and studs. The blue streak on her hair and her dramatic makeup were the finishing touches to her themed look.

Ashley Olsen in a Dior Couture Dress
So, how does a gothic-chic gal dresses punk? Ashley Olsen unfortunately didn’t give us an opportunity to find out as she ignored the theme of the gala. Nevertheless, her beaded Dior dress with a sheer overlay was eye-catching and noteworthy.
We were supposed to include her twin sister (Mary-Kate) here, but we didn’t have available photos of her. She donned a Chanel dress at the event and styled it with an oversized fur-trimmed robe.

Taylor Swift in a J. Mendel Gown
Country singer Taylor Swift proved that she can be a rock babe, too. She put her inner punk-rock chic on display in a J. Mendel gown that features an embellished neckline and some lace insets. Her smoky eyes completed her themed look!

Miley Cyrus in a Marc Jacobs Fall 2013 Gown
Ever since she cut her hair, Miley Cyrus has been showing off her punk side, so her look at Met Ball 2013 wasn’t really a surprise. She didn’t do a mohawk with her hair, though, but simply went for a messy do. Her mesh gown with a nude lining is from Marc by Marc Jacobs. Overall, Miley gave off a sexy-punk vibe.

Katy Perry in a Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2013 Dress
Katy Perry’s look was more dramatic and costumey than punk. It was like she was proclaiming herself the queen of the night as she wore a crown with matching cross earrings that were rather gothic. Her stunning “Joan of Arc” dress features intricate metallic embellishments.

Anne Hathaway in a Valentino Couture Gown
Anne Hathaway was very impressive at the event. She completely transformed her look into a mix of sexy, edgy, and punk! Her new blond hair brought her in line with the night’s theme, and her revealing Valentino dress teased the imagination. The dress is a see-through gown embellished with beads to somehow cover her private parts. Anne was definitely the sexiest punk!
