Chloe Sevigny showed off her fashion chops once again when she attended the “Dada Ball 2010: Dada Rocks with Decades” at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis on April 17.
While everyone else was in full “bow tie and pouffy dress” formal ball regalia, Chloe rocked a black, skin-tight, slit-up-to-there mini dress adorned with – of all things – safety pins.

Chloe certainly deviated from the traditional ball dress code, but she stood out from the crowd in a very good way. Coming to the event in this very fashion-forward outfit proved that the organizers made a good choice when they selected her as one of the 4 honorary chair members of the fashion-themed 2010 Dada Ball.
Chloe Sevigny’s safety pin dress is from the Versus Spring 2010 RTW collection.
The sleeves and the skirt are slashed and then “reattached” with safety pin accents. The dress retails for approximately $1,741.95 at Browns Fashion.
Fashion has always had a love/hate relationship with the safety pin, and Versus and Chloe Sevigny are turning that meter to point back to “love” once again. I like what Versus has done to the safety pin – coated it with a shiny lacquer finish, engraved it with a lion’s head detail, and made it extra large – and I love that Chloe Sevigny chose to wear a safety pin-embellished dress to a formal event.
I was happy to come across these 2 dresses from Pencey that also have simple yet striking safety pin details. These show that safety pins can be fashionable and stylish when done correctly:
