Chloë Sevigny — Vogue’s original street icon — channeled classic elegance when she attended the “Love & Friendship” premiere with Kate Beckinsale and her boyfriend Ricky Saiz.

Love & Friendship (2016) is a period comedy film shot in just 26 days. Despite a limited budget, Kate Beckinsale’s costumes and most of Chloë Sevigny’s were custom-designed.

The film is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s epistolary novel Lady Susan, first published in 1871. It uses a name from Austen’s other novel, Love and Friendship.

Sienna Miller was originally cast in the lead role, but Kate Beckinsale replaced her. Beckinsale and Sevigny had previously co-starred in the 1998 film The Last Days of Disco, also directed by Whit Stillman.

This is the second time that Beckinsale has starred as a character from a Jane Austen novel. She previously portrayed Emma Woodhouse in the 1996 TV movie Emma.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2016. Morfydd Clark and Emma Greenwell, who play Fredrica and Catherine Vernon, were in another Austen adaptation/parody, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016), as Georgiana Darcy and Caroline Bingley.

The 2016 period comedy film Love & Friendship received funding from Arte, the Irish Film Board, and the Netherlands Film Fund. Amazon Studios acquired the North American rights to the film, teaming up with Roadside Attractions for its theatrical release. Curzon Artificial Eye handled the film’s UK release.
