Borrow from the Boys: Wear a Sweatshirt as a Dress a la Rihanna

As the reigning queen of the currently most copied street chic style, Rihanna has license to throw together whatever trends she wants.

Lately, she has taken to wearing menswear, and successfully at that. Nothing is off limits to Rihanna, which is why a wide range of designers — from well-known houses like Givenchy to cult brands like Kokon To Zai — are scrambling to dress her.

A couple of days ago, Rihanna donned one of her literally taken-from-the-boys outfits, which was a black-and-white sweatshirt from the Kokon To Zai (KTZ) Fall/Winter 2013 men’s collection accessorized with a Trapstar x 40 Oz Van snapback cap, Ray-Ban wayfarers, hoop earrings, a Mona Mara “London City Skyline” necklace, and Brian Atwood “Isabeli” sandals.

Not content with just wearing the men’s sweatshirt as a dress, Rihanna later threw on a black-and-white embroidered jacket, also from the KTZ Fall/Winter 2013 men’s collection.

Despite all the dizzying patterns, the baggy men’s fit, and the haphazardly thrown together look, you can see how Rihanna’s menswear outfit just works. It’s just so achingly cool, and furthermore, it looks downright comfortable.

You can wait for the Kokon To Zai Fall/Winter 2013 men’s collection to be available online, or take inspiration from Rihanna and grab these readily available men’s sweatshirts in larger sizes so you can rock them as a dress:

Men's sweatshirtsMYVL “Ratchet” Sweatshirt, $60 / Insight “Yo Picasso” Zip Hoodie, $70 / Live Individuals “Throwing Cash in the Air” Sweatshirt, $59

Men's sweatshirtsOrisue “Revolution” Sweatshirt, $27.95 (before: $55) / Rook “Biggy Bear” Hoodie, $68 / Petals and Peacocks “SDFU” Sweatshirt, $58

Another thing to love about this menswear trend is how easy it is to feminize. Let-down hair, a swipe of lipstick, cute heels, or even just your own sexy womanly legs will already do the trick!
