The 2016 MTV VMAs did not disappoint when it came to the fashion scene. The annual Video Music Awards usually results in everything from fabulous to weird. Who can forget Lady Gaga’s meat dress from 2010? Or Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” performance where she worked the dance floor in a wedding dress? And, remember when Britney Spears accessorized with an albino python back in 2001? We’re always interested to see what happens at this event.
Here are our opinions of the best — and worst — dressed from this year’s event.
Best-Dressed
1. Beyonce in Francesco Scognamiglio

Before Beyonce stunned everyone with her performances, she graced the “white carpet” first with a feathery frock from a designer that many of you might not be familiar with – Francesco Scognamiglio. The singer really nailed the requisite drama the MTV VMAs is known for in a sheer gown.
2. Hailee Steinfeld in Balmain

The 19-year-old actress and singer rocked the most intricate dress of the night – this woven mini dress from Balmain. It’s the most colorful too and looked perfect with Hailee’s pair of Giuseppe Zanotti sandals.
3. Heidi Klum in Roberto Cavalli
Heidi Klum at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards in New York on August 29, 2016
This Roberto Cavalli dress strategically showed off bits and parts of Heidi Klum’s body without showing too much. The multi-strapped sandals capped off her look.
4. Britney Spears

We still don’t know who made this cut-out dress but it sure looked great on the pop singer! She’s come a long way from her anaconda-wearing days.
5. Kim Kardashian in Galliano

This vintage Galliano dress is too low, too sheer and too short — but we actually really like this look on Kim. The reality star wore a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes with it.
6. Naomi Campbell in Brandon Maxwell

The 46-year-old always knows how to dress up for the MTV VMAs, and this year was not an exception. She wore two dresses from Brandon Maxwell and one of them is this thigh-slit, pristine white one-shouldered creation.
7. Shelley Hennig in Rohit & Raul

The actress might be fairly new to the scene, but she sure knows what works on her. We love this Rohit & Raul Khanna dress with those Sophia Webster shoes.
Worst-Dressed
1. Nicki Minaj in Bao Tranchi
Nicki Minaj at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards in New York on August 29, 2016
This Bao Tranchi cobalt cut-out gown didn’t look too bad on the singer. But, the fact Nicki reportedly couldn’t walk in it and had to be assisted to the venue doesn’t strike us as a fashion win.
2. Alicia Keys in Just Cavali

Frumpy. That’s one word we will use to describe this look. We understand Alicia has been trying out the natural look, but a little glamming up couldn’t hurt — especially for an event such as the MTV VMAs.
3. Rita Ora in Marc Jacobs
Rita Ora at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards in New York on August 29, 2016
Rita Ora tried too hard. Again. That was pretty evident in this confusing amalgam of leather, fur and lace.
4. Jenni Farley in Pnina Tomai
Jenni Farley at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards in New York on August 29, 2016
Morticia Addams called. She wants her dress back.
5. Taylor Hill in Jeremy Scott for Moschino

Someone was a bit heavy-handed on the sequins. On the other hand, Tinkerbell would have probably appreciated this outfit.
