While we can’t exactly count on Hollywood weddings to last, we can definitely count on the timelessness of their red carpet outfits. By now, brides-to-be must have already sought out celebrity wedding dresses online as references for their own big day, so we decided to venture out into a terrain less explored — red carpet white dresses. Not surprisingly, quite a number of the dresses we found were wedding-ready.

Here are five altar-ready looks by celebrities on the red carpet.

1. Uma Thurman

Falling right into the statuesque profiles of the likes of Cate Blanchett and Charlize Theron, Uma Thurman looked elegant in a simple but sophisticated creation by Atelier Versace. For those who aren’t too keen on the usual puffy skirts and prefer a more toned-down elegance, a simple dress that is sheer at the yoke would be a good choice. Don’t be afraid to inject some diamonds into this minimalistic look.

Whether it is an embellishment done with lace, embroidery, or something else, there is always something glamorous about a beautifully created high neckline. We also love a skirt that’s not quite a mermaid cut but not as loose as an A-line — it slightly hugs the hips and tapers softly into a skirt that pools around the feet. This silhouette will always be a classic with wedding dresses and even with gowns in general.

Most of us probably had that childhood dream of getting married in a huge fluffy skirt (our mothers would always wonder where all the blankets went to). While this dream may have changed over the years for some, most of us still hold on to this Barbie-like dream for our big day. Go for a conservative look a la Rita Ora in a chiffon-skirt-and-long-sleeve-lace-top combination, or opt for a more revealing fitted corset top.

The mermaid/serpentina silhouette is probably the most curve-creating dress for a sexy look that doesn’t reveal too much skin. If you prefer this old-Hollywood cut on your big day, make sure to get the proportions right to avoid looking all stumpy. Do practice walking in your dress to ensure that there is enough leg room. Cute as it was, nobody wants a Jennifer Lawrence Oscar moment on their wedding day.

With the rise of the small wedding trend, more and more brides are turning toward a nymph-in-the-woods-like theme for their special day. This also sparked a rise in the vintage-inspired wedding dress trend (yes, the kind that your grandmother probably wore), which usually means lace, long sleeves, and a back keyhole with a pearl button closure. No worries — with the variation of lace today, you can easily ride this trend without looking like you came out of the attic.
