Olivia Palermo on How to Rework a ’20s-Style Flapper Dress

Twenties-style flapper dresses are difficult enough to wear without looking like a costume, but Olivia Palermo not only owned it but even found a way to spin it into two different looks. And here we were lamenting that flapper dresses now seem to be considered only as period pieces that you wear when you want to dress up for that era. Olivia, with her creative styling and skills in mixing and matching, completely disproves that notion.

The first time Olivia wore her Willow fringed top and skirt combo, she just went with the ’20s theme. She even chose an art deco clutch as her accessory and a close-to-the-skull hairdo that somewhat resembled the fitted cloche hats that were popular in that decade.

The second time around, she channeled her inner cowgirl. Paired with a plaid shirt and a thick belt, the long, swingy fringes now look Western-inspired instead of the ’20s embellishment that it was before.

You might’ve noticed that Olivia even styled both looks with the same Aquazzura “Beverly Hills” sandals in gold and red. Same dress and same shoes, yet the outfits look worlds different. This, ladies, is the power that accessories hold.
