At the 2011 People’s Choice Awards, Minka Kelly co-introduced Kid Rock’s performance with her The Roommate co-star and Gossip Girl’s Queen B, Leighton Meester. Here are a couple of videos of the two lookalikes at the event:

My oh my, the two could pass off as sisters, agree? Their girly appeal is quite hard to ignore.

One month later, Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly visited the Apple Store to discuss their new psychological thriller The Roommate at Apple’s “Meet the Actors” event.

While looking like they could be twins, Minka and Leighton are not related. In 2003, they became real-life best friends while filming separate commercials for the zip zapping skincare line, Clearasil.

“The movie is about Sarah — Minka Kelly’s character — who comes into college; it’s her first day, and she comes to the dorms and she meets me, her roommate Rebecca,” explained Leighton in an interview with MTV about their American psychological thriller film The Roommate.

“We develop a friendship, and then it goes south and Rebecca starts to develop an unhealthy fixation on Sarah, and tries to merge with her and become very, very involved in her life.”

Now we already know Leighton’s dress is from Vionnet. Minka’s vintage-inspired off-shoulder frock, on the other hand, is from Vivienne Westwood’s Spring 2011 Collection. She wore it exactly the same way it was worn on the runway, save for the pumps:

The dress is lovely, don’t you think? A bit risky with its interesting combination of vintage lace and plaid, but definitely lovely.

And in case you didn’t notice, the hem is asymmetrical too. It isn’t available online yet, but maybe you can check the nearest Vivienne Westwood store in your area.

As expected, a substitute was impossible to find. So I ended up searching for vintage lace dresses instead. Here’s what I found at Revolve:

3 vintage lace dressesMadison Marcus Lace One Shoulder Dress, $285 / LaROK Lace Maze Dress, $295 / VOOM by Joy Han Lace off Shoulder Dress, $195

The closest option would be the LaROK dress at the center.

If you want to recreate Minka’s look and you don’t mind doing a bit of altering, simply cut off the sleeves of the dress of your choice (so you either have one shoulder with no sleeve, a sleeveless, or an off-shoulder with no sleeves), then grab a plaid fabric and turn it into a sash:

Of course, make sure the color you choose complements the dress. And if you’re not so keen on the plaid sash, you can always use a leather belt.

That said, I’m going to end this post with a quick question, which dress would you wear? Minka’s Vivienne Westwood, or Leighton’s Vionnet?
