Lena Dunham did not win any trophies, but she’s one of the most talked-about from the 2014 Emmy Awards.

The Girls actress has her Giambattista Valli Fall 2014 couture ensemble to thank — or not.

Featuring a prim Peter Pan collar, a saccharine-sweet pink ombré color, and layers and layers of ruffles on the skirt, the couture creation has Lena being compared to a cupcake, a piñata, and worst, a used tampon.

The outfit itself isn’t bad. In fact, we ourselves wouldn’t turn down the chance to wear something so fluffy, fun, and feminine.

But it was in the styling that Lena failed this potentially fabulous red carpet moment. Going with a platinum bowl cut, heavily outlined eyes, and an unironed, untailored fit? It was one bad styling choice after another for the 28-year-old actress.

Lena also looked like she might need to learn some red carpet poses, but it’s hard to keep hating when she and her boyfriend, Jack Antonoff, looked this cute together:

Lena also didn’t seem to care about the criticisms and just thanked Giambattista Valli for creating the dress of her dreams. Sometimes, how you feel about yourself is all that matters.

The pairing of a button-down shirt and a ball skirt remains to be our favorite. If you don’t mind the cupcake comparisons, grab your favorite shirt and wear it with these lovely tulle skirts from Etsy sellers:
