It’s prom season! Naturally, we’ve been looking forward to seeing the best-of-the-best dresses from the top designers. But, we also always look forward to seeing something a bit different. It’s this time of year that we get to watch designers-in-the-making modeling their own creations for the Internet.
Last year, we saw teenager Kyemah McEntyre completely rule her prom with an African-themed gown that she created herself. And, this year, another teen won the hearts of many with a handmade prom dress that was inspired by Beyonce’s Givenchy sheer tulle gown at the 2015 Met Gala.
Like many of us, 18-year-old India Ross is pretty much obsessed with Queen Bey. To pay homage to her idol, she worked with local designer Toi Hall to recreate Beyonce’s sexy sheer dress. The mesh gown was embellished with more than 2,000 hand-placed multicolored crystals.
India, along with her date, had a lot of fun during their prom. Apparently, the couple felt like Jay-Z and Bey in their glamorous ensembles. To get the full Beyonce effect, India also copied Bey’s high ponytail hairstyle and made sure she nailed the poses too. India said she only paid $800 for the dress, which helped catapult the high schooler into the spotlight. This look quickly became viral and received a lot of praises from the public. We imagine that even Beyonce has to be proud.
