When we hear “Erdem,” we think of dressed-up formals, prim and proper sensibilities, and stately figures like the Duchess of Cambridge.
We didn’t see any of those in the label’s Spring 2014 collection, though. Gone are the delicateness, the stiffness, and the formality — in their place are inspirations from a rebellious schoolboy with a mad cross-dressing streak.
You can straight away see the institutional influences in the white collared shirts, preppy blazers, and rugby-shirt striped pattern. A top with words scrawled on them immediately recall our own school days of doodling in notebooks to while away time during boring lectures.

But Erdem is Erdem, and it seemed the designer couldn’t stay away from his signature aesthetic for long.
The Erdem we know and love soon started showing up in the form of fluffy feathers, florals, and sheer fabrics on sweatshirts, varsity jackets, and shirtdresses.

Pretty soon, the spring 2014 collection was full-blown Erdem with intricate embroidery, floral prints, and elegant draping.
